Dhaka Handwoven Cloth

This traditional pattern weaving is done on outdoor wood and bamboo treadle looms by the skillful and inventive – Limbu and Rai women of Eastern Nepal. The origin of the word Dhaka is obscure: the finc texture of Dhaka cloth suggests similarities to the famous “Dhaka muslin”. The sound of the Nepali word for thread “dhago” or for cover “dhaknu” are also similar to Dhaka.
